Your home’s rain gutters divert water away from the roof and prevent water damage to both the inside and outside of your property. But when they don’t work properly, water can pool on your roof or seep into your basement, leading to rot and mold. Rain gutter repair, gutter cleaning and gutter replacement are all typical maintenance for the function and appearance of a house. Regular gutter repair services help keep everything running smoothly. Trust a local pro to help you complete a fast, reliable repair backed by Cunano Builders.
Gutter repair is usually simple and inexpensive. Leaky gutters can result from rust and loose—or even missing—parts. Small holes can be patched with plastic roofing cement, while larger holes may need to be patched with metal flashing. Choose from flexible downspout extensions, gutter guards, and more gutter accessories. Gutters are a prominent feature on your home, so gutter repair is also important for curb appeal. Materials are available in a range of colors to match your home’s appearance.

PLAN AND DETAILS
Every repair is different, and all requests will require a site visit.
Generally, gutter repair can include:
- Screwing miters (corner pieces) together.
- Checking for loose downspouts, gutters, missing parts or leaking.
- Nailing rain gutter to fascia board, if sagging or pulling away.
- Caulking for dripping/ leaking rain gutters.
- Adding straps for downspouts pulling away from the wall.
- Diverting downspouts to change direction of water flow/drain.
Materials used during repair are often screws, caulking, nails, aluminum straps, and aluminum end caps.
A gutter repair can take anywhere from 15 minutes to 2 hours, but keep in mind that every situation is unique. Time frame for repair depends on the severity and scale of the job. Several factors can impact the length of your repair, such as landscape (bushes, trees, steep slopes) or the size and structure of your home (decks, roof type, multiple stories). Rotten wood can also impact your repair time.
Gutter cleaning is done annually or biannually, typically once before winter and once before summer, depending on landscaping in surrounding areas and how much debris gets caught in your system.
It may be time for a cleaning if you have a waterfall effect or the downspouts aren’t draining. Service providers often recommend a cleaning first, then note all repairs that need to be done separately.
If a gutter needs to be cleaned, a service provider will normally reseal all corners, end caps and drop outlets, then offer a gutter guard so they don’t require extensive cleaning again.
Often, gutter spikes (or nails) come loose and the gutter has pulled away from the fascia, or the downspout has come loose. If your gutter is leaking or loose, it can probably be repaired. However, a smashed or bent gutter will need replacement. If water comes over the front edge or sides of the gutter, it’s likely clogged and needs cleaning.
Pitch issues occur when water does not flow well or flows in the opposite direction of the downspout. This problem also requires a site review, as the repair work depends on the situation.
Note that rust cannot be repaired and will require gutter replacement as well.
Repair costs vary depending on the circumstances. Replacement gutters are generally inexpensive. For example, 10 feet of standard gutters usually cost around $15, before labor.
